ABOUT ONEWANDSWORTH

OneWandsworth is a fast-growing, broad-based group of local residents and businesses campaigning to reverse the roll-out of draconian, dangerous and discriminatory road closures across the south London borough of Wandsworth

The group has brought together pedestrians, cyclists, the disabled, motorists, bus-users, delivery drivers,

commuters, business owners, faith congregations, schools and tradespeople whose daily movements around the borough have been impeded by a ‘perfect storm’ of TfL and government road closures and traffic restrictions.

OneWandsworth is a non-political, non-partisan group that campaigns on one issue only and is funded purely by personal donations.

It is a peaceful, neighbourly, grassroots organisation that speaks for local residents and all road users who love their neighbourhoods and want to reclaim the vibrancy of their communities.

Specifically, the group supports the drive for less traffic, lower pollution, better public transport and safer streets for cyclists and pedestrians, especially the elderly and disabled. Its passionate and broad-based opposition to the TfL Streetspace scheme and government-backed LTN (low-traffic neighbourhood) changes is because they have had precisely the opposite effect and are putting people in danger.

Journeys are taking longer; pollution has soared from gridlocked traffic; cyclists have been injured by turning vehicles; the elderly and disabled cannot park or be dropped off outside shops; emergency vehicles are stuck in stationary traffic; sealed-off roads make them more dangerous for pedestrians, especially at night; businesses cannot receive deliveries and the streetscape has been blighted by poles, bollards and concrete blocks.

Group members are extremely anxious that the closures and restrictions will be the cause of a serious injury or fatality – from a knocked-over pedestrian or cyclist, or an emergency vehicle being delayed on its way to or from hospital, to a fire or other emergency.

Our sole aim is to challenge Wandsworth Borough Council and TfL on the recent implementation of multiple road schemes across the Borough.

Whilst we appreciate that these schemes have been rushed through under emergency Covid legislation, there are multiple issues with restricting vehicle access without proper planning and alternative infrastructure in place.

We are a peaceful organisation and do not condone any vandalism of property or any threatening behaviour. We simply want Councillors and TfL to listen to our grievances and concerns and take immediate action.

OneWandsworth is working with OneLondon on a collaborative approach to challenging these restrictions. Despite this collaboration OneWandsworth, remains completely independent and is not connect to any political party.

about the team

We are a small team of four administrators who are long-standing local residents, from Wandsworth and Lambeth-Wandsworth borders.

We came together through our shared concerns about the implementation of these schemes which were being constantly discussed on local social media.

We are a mix of car drivers, cyclist and pedestrians, some of us are parents and some of us not.

We will publish all of our expenditure and any funds remaining at the end of this campaign will be donated to a local  charity.
